Taiga Aisaka (ToRaDoRa!) - Kotobukiya 1/6

August 2024 · 4 minute read
Hi again,

my newest addition is the small but hard hitting Taiga Aisaka from 'ToRaDoRa!'. She comes in 1/6 scale from Kotobukiya and to be honest, I just realized while I was typing the review that it is a re-release, as there is an already 5 year old review. After comparing the pictures she didn't change much (or at all). The hands are a bit different and maybe the colouring changed slightly, but judge for yourself.

Spoiler ahead: I couldn't find any painting errors. So everything that looks like dust is actually dust. So then, let's start with the box. Nothing special here.

If you want a tight fitting blister look no further. This is by far the tightest blister I ever had to open. Interestingly the area before her face is cut out. Maybe to avoid scratches? Anyway, she fits nicely there and is well packed. And if you ask you the same question as I did as I saw her: Yes it is one solid piece from head to base.

The base is a bit odd and I am not a big fan of it. The surface is super random. This figure is based on a very specific scene of the anime, so why not choose the same surface as from that scene? Missed opportunity.

Time for Taiga in 360°:

Black is obviously the dominating colour of her outfit. That lets the white applications of the blazer stand out all the more. The lines and badge are very sharp and everything looks nice. The ribbon is maybe a bit too white without any shading at all.

Her top can be seen between the blazer and skirt. This loosens up the big pile of black clothes and is a nice design choice. I like her wavy skirt.

The underskirt is slightly peeking out a bit. This is an appreciated highlight before the next big part of black is coming, her stockings. The colouring of her stockings is by the way better than it looks under so much light. I will talk about this more later.

I like her stockings but seriously, what's with her knees? I have seen such knees on real persons so it's okay. Still from some angles I just have to wonder... But the resulting pose is nice and matches well her embarrassed state from that scene.

The shoes look good, but I am not a fan of that colour. But that's just my personal preference. Remember, the white stuff is dust and not scratches.

Her hands are quite nice, lots of details like fingernails. Sadly they wont be seen much.

It's hard to get her face from a good angle as there is so much hair. I think it is a good face as it matches her personality quite good.

This leaves only one thing left, her enormous amount of hair. Certainly one of her trademarks. It has not much shading, but the big strands will cast a nice natural shadow (if there is not so much spot on lighting as in these pictures).

And now at the end, the only casting issue I could found. This spot on her hair.

So that's it. I tried to keep it short, matching to a short girl- Ow, something just hit me... but I think I failed as it is still rather long. To be honest, I was quite disappointed at first for two reasons. Firstly the main colour black looks not good under too much light. The different shades of black (yes I know, black is black but you know what I mean) of her stockings vanish under the light. Also her top and skirt could have better colouring. It's a bit too simple for that price.
The second reason is her size. She is huge. That was totally my fault for not noticing the 1/6 scale, but big part of her charm is her small size. So scaling her up is a odd decision. I would have preferred her in 1/7, but okay. It is how it is. After I have seen her in a more natural light I am more pleased with her. She is still too big, but all in all I like her now.

In the last picture you can see that her stockings and top look way better with less light. The skirt still looks a bit dull, as most of the brighter parts are the result of the flash. You can also see how ridiculously huge she is compared to 1/8 figures.

Now I have to find a place far a away from 1/8 figures... until then, bye bye!
