SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Urban Indian Center and Utah Navajo Health System are collecting firewood from trees that were uprooted or damaged during Tuesday’s windstorm to donate to Utah’s tribes.

Advocates said donations will be given to elderly Native Americans who rely on firewood for heat during the winter.

Firewood can be dropped off at the following locations:

Donations will be accepted Friday, Sunday and Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Volunteers said pieces of wood need to be 4 feet or shorter in length.

Hurricane-level winds hit northern Utah, knocking down hundreds of trees and leaving around 180,000 Utahns without power.

Rocky Mountain Power crews have been working around the clock to restore power. Around 39,000 Utahns remained without power as of 6 p.m. Friday.
